Day 3 - Sarnen - Aprica (300KM) 18th September 2010

So this was the day when we were to cross 8 mountain passes through the Swiss Alps. A distance of about 200 miles in total, but due to the low speed of most of the roads, realistically a 10 hour drive...

We met everyone in a carpark near the hotel in Sarnen to do the photoshoot and to collect todays challenge...

Challenge collected and we're off! Todays challenge was to take pictures of particular colours of cars. 1 point for Blue, 2 for red, 3 for green, 5 for yellow, 6 for brown and 7 for pink.
Part of the route we would be taking today, driving east through Switzerland and eventually bearing down towards the south and Italy towards the end of the day.
An amazingly looking dam which we found after the first pass. It was cold but worth it for the view. Switzerland is probably the most beautiful country in Europe, especially if you are a geography nut like me!
View + the leg which began to attract passing motorists!
Goat the sheep making an appearance
On the top of the second pass of the day, the leg performing very well and considerably better than the hearse Granada which was breaking down every 15 minutes due to overheating.
what a view!!!
an alp (not sure which one!!)
Imagine if you will conservative Switzerland and then us wandering into a supermarket dressed as kings. The looks we got were mixed, mainly negative I must add. We didn't have the metal filter for the cafetiere with us, but miraculously after visiting this store, we did.
We found a nice spot to have bacon sarnies and a cup of hot brown - a truly british thing to do...
Yellow car for our collection. We ended up with 4 browns and 3 pinks so disregarded it!
After crossing our 6th pass, cruising through a high alpine valley bearing down on Julierpass
Yes!
The leg having a drink. It did 30mpg over the alps today. crazy!
italy!!!
A great day. Some of the most stunning views imagineable, a great drive, the car was fantastic and the little town we arrived in (Aprica) was beautiful. We went out for dinner with our new Italian friend Tom and his mates, which was niiiiice...

Weird hotel and scary lift. Off to Viterbo tomorrow.....
here is a vid of our day:
